Join us for a film first in Robin Hood’s Forest

The silver screen comes to Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre this summer for the first ever outdoor cinema event in Robin Hood’s forest.

We’ll be showing not one, but two films on Saturday 16th July.

At 4pm, there will be Disney’s much-loved animated telling of the legend of ‘Robin Hood’, with the hero outlaw using all his cunning and charm to outwit the evil Prince John.

And at 7pm, we’ll be keeping it medieval with ‘A Knight’s Tale’, the 2001 movie starring the late, great Heath Ledger as William Thatcher, a lowly peasant who reinvents himself as a knight in search of glory and the love of a fair maiden.

Jess Dumoulin, Visitor Experience Manager at RSPB Sherwood Forest, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing outdoor cinema to Sherwood Forest for the very first time.

“The Forest is such an iconic location within popular culture and storytelling that it seems natural to be able to have one night of the year when we can put on a cinema experience like this.

“Disney’s Robin Hood was an obvious family favourite for us to show on our first film event, and for the evening film A Knight’s Tale proved a very popular choice on social media and through a public poll.

”It’s a rip-roaring, action-packed movie with a great rags to riches story that we think everyone can enjoy. You could almost imagine it being played out for real in Sherwood Forest back in the Middle Ages!”

Prices are just £10 for adults and £7.50 for children, or just £8 and £6 respectively for RSPB members. Please note that tickets will need to be bought for each of the films. One ticket does not cover both films.

You can book your tickets via the Events page of this website.

The films will be shown on a truck-mounted LED screen measuring 20m2, with the audience seated on the green between the Visitor Centre and the entrance to Sherwood Forest.

The Visitor Centre café will be open to serve refreshments, and cinema-goers can now also hire traditional wicker picnic hampers. There is more information about this new offer on The Café page of our website.

Parking will be available in the main and accessible car parks at the Visitor Centre. There is a parking charge of £5 per vehicle per day and you can pay using a contactless device or by phone, using the PayByPhone app and our location ID 806294.

Please check our Plan Your Visit page for more information on coming to Sherwood, including directions to the Visitor Centre and parking.
