Education

Sherwood Forest is an incredible place to learn, explore, discover, experiment and grow, so this place has welcomed school visits for decades. We’d love to welcome you, too…

We’re in the process of developing a new education base, close to the visitor centre. This will host organised school visits, giving classes a great base for their learning adventures. And those adventures might focus on nature and how it thrives and sustains here, or maybe a minibeast hunt, or walking in Robin’s footsteps and getting as close as possible to the legends of Sherwood.

We recommend that schools book a tutor-led visit with Nottinghamshire County Council’s Outdoor Education Service. A full programme of educational themes is available, which can really bring children’s learning to life. You can find out more and make a booking by contacting the NCC’s Outdoor Education Team on 01623 822218. You can also email perlethorpe@nottscc.gov.uk or write to:

Schools are also welcome to do their own thing. If you are a teacher planning to visit the forest with your school group and to self-lead the tour, it would be really helpful if you could let us know in advance. Sherwood is a very busy site and this will allow us to ensure that you have the best experience on your visit. Parking charges will apply to all visiting coaches. Please email sherwoodforest@rspb.org.uk to let us know numbers and dates and we can help you to avoid clashes with other large groups, and give you any information you need to make the most of your trip.

And if your group is itching to get into the shop, but there’s no time on your visit, we can provide you with a pre-paid goodie bag with Sherwood Forest souvenirs for your group. Download and complete this form with your group’s details and we will have them ready to pick up.
