Facilities and Changing Places
Toilets with baby change facilities are situated within the Visitor Centre, but please note there are no others out on the reserves.
As well as two accessible toilets, we also have a Changing Places facility which provides greater space and access for people with disabilities – and importantly, their carers too. Most standard disabled toilets are not big enough to cater for people who may need their carer’s assistance.
We want everyone to be able to access and enjoy our new visitor centre – which is why we felt it was vital to provide this facility. It provides:
The right equipment
- A height adjustable adult-sized changing bench
- A tracking hoist system
Space
- Adequate space in the changing area for the disabled person and up to two personal assistants
- A toilet with room either side
A safe and clean environment
- Wide tear off paper roll to cover the bench
- A large waste bin for disposable pads
- A non-slip floor
Due to hygiene considerations, we ask that users provide their own sling to use on our hoist system. The key is available from a member of our catering team – please ask in the cafe and return it afterwards.
A mobility scooter is available to hire for £3 per hour.
It can be reserved by emailing us at sherwoodforest@rspb.org.uk or calling 01623 677321. Please book the scooter in advance of your visit. We cannot make same-day bookings at this time.
We are also a breastfeeding friendly venue and have pledged to support breastfeeding in all public areas of the Visitor Centre.
Our accessibility guide is available here (external website).
The Visitor Centre lift is currently out of order and we are working closely with specialists to repair it. We realise that this will be a barrier for some of our visitors which will affect moving between the two floors of the building and accessing our shop, café, toilets and Changing Places facility. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that is caused by it not being in operation.
As mentioned above, a mobility scooter is available to hire and there is a sloped pathway linking the accessible car park to the amphitheatre area and the entrance to the Visitor Centre café.
We recommend calling us on 01623 677321 or emailing sherwoodforest@rspb.org.uk if you plan to visit Sherwood and have questions about access to our building and its facilities.
