There’s plenty to do for families with younger adventurers of all ages and interests. Whether they’re Robin fanatics, budding bug spotters, young nature lovers, or simply bursting with energy, just bring your spirit of adventure!
Any day of the year you can lead your own expedition into the forest, following one of the many paths and bridleways to see where it takes you. Or you can use our trails to help you on your way, maybe even bring the bikes for a gentle cycle along our bridleways.
Perhaps you’ll pick up one of our children’s backpacks, available for hire from the visitor centre and full of useful things. Contents vary each month depending on our featured activity, so you’ll discover something different on every trip!
Or add to the adventure by taking the Wild Challenge – sign up here www.rspb.org.uk and you’ll get resources, guides, hints and tips to help you enjoy and record the real magic of the forest – a must for any bug fanatic and young nature lover.
Look out for our costumed guides in the forest. They are a mine of useful information about all things Sherwood, and will be able to let your little ones know if they’ve spotted Robin or any of his merry men that day – always good to keep track of his whereabouts!
Time it right to come to one of our special activities … throughout the year we host events including guided walks, led by costumed characters, bug hunts and competitions. There are seasonal events – like spooky Halloween story-telling walks, and the magical moonlit Sparkling Sherwood, when the forest is illuminated with thousands of glittering fairy lights to beckon in the Christmas festivities. And of course, a winter highlight, our Christmas tree dressing. And don’t forget the Robin Hood Festival …
