Get stirring to start Christmas at Sherwood

We’re not waiting until December to get cracking with Christmas at Sherwood Forest and Budby South Forest.

It all begins on Sunday 20th November, when we’re inviting visitors to think about making a Christmas cake with a difference.

With the temperatures dropping and food becoming scarce for woodland and garden birds, we’ll be holding a Stir-Up Sunday for visitors to make bird seed cakes.

Once made, visitors can take them home and ensure our feathered friends have a tasty meal or two to tuck into this winter.

On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December, visitors can get crafty making a Christmas wreath, using natural materials gathered from the conservation work we do at Sherwood Forest and Budby South Forest.

With expert guidance on hand, we can help you create a fancy festive design which would grace any front door. Please note this is a bookable event.

3rd December also marks the return of the brilliant RobinRobin trail, based on the Aardman Animation film being shown this Christmas on Netflix.

Find the characters from Robin’s escapades as you make your way through the Forest and build a brilliant nest in our den-building area.

We’ll also have a Robin Hood themed-trail. Join Mission: Merry Christmas and help the outlaws gather everything they need for a proper celebration – don’t let the Sheriff cancel Christmas!

And on Sunday 4th December, there’ll be carols sung by the wonderful Dukeries Singers to get the seasonal spirit flowing.

With the big day fast approaching, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th December will see a range of performances and activities at Sherwood.

On the Sunday, we will be Crying Christmas, choosing the Lord of Misrule who will take control of the Forest from the Sheriff during Yuletide, ensuring fun for everyone, including Robin Hood and the outlaws who will emerge from the forest to enjoy some festive freedom.

Come along and bring your voices and good cheer to take part in this Medieval ceremony to begin the merry-making this Christmas.
