Sherwood Under Covid-19

During the national lockdown, in line with Government guidance on essential, daily exercise outdoors, our car park, trails and toilets are open.

At the visitor centre the shop is closed, however our takeaway refreshments are still available in the café.  We are not running events.

We urge you to follow Government guidance on non-essential travel and please stay local to your nearest greenspaces. 

When visiting us please observe current guidance around social distancing, group sizes hygiene and follow all signage on-site.

  • If you are purchasing food on site NHS Test and Trace is a legal requirement.
  • Face coverings must be worn throughout the visitor centre.

Your safety and the safety of our staff is incredibly important to us. Please be kind, patient and maintain social distancing. Some facilities may need to close for short periods for staff welfare, please be understanding as our team are operating under new and continually changing circumstances.

Car Parking

The main and accessible car parks are open 9am – 4pm daily.

Parking costs £4, or free to RSPB members. Please pay at the machines and use the hand-sanitiser available there, the machines accept coin, card and contactless. While the car park locks to arriving cars at 4pm, it is possible to depart over the alligator teeth after this time.

Limited parking is available in our car park and on busy days, once the car park is full, it can close for long periods.

Please consider this before travelling as there is very limited parking available elsewhere nearby. 

Out of hours parking is available in the St John’s Hut car park which opens at 4pm each afternoon for evening visits. It is also available first thing in the morning but is locked at 9:30am, please vacate by this time. This car park is located on Forest Corner, opposite the craft centre.

Trails and Play Area

Please follow the one-way signage from the car park, around the centre and trails to enable everyone to maintain social distance.

Please follow the countryside code and take your litter home, particularly for large picnics. Some bins are available for small items of waste purchased on site.

The play area is open with a cap on numbers, please observe all signage.


To enable social distancing, limited facilities are available and a traffic light queuing system is in place 10am-4pm daily.  Face coverings are mandatory inside the building.

Food and drink

Takeaway refreshments are available in the café is now open 10am – 4pm daily.

Please note that we are only accepting card payment. All café purchases are subject to NHS Test and Trace and face coverings must be worn inside.

In accordance with Government guidance, please do not visit if you or any person you live with has any symptoms of coronavirus.
