Let the jousting begin at Sherwood Forest

It’s lances at the ready at Sherwood Forest this weekend as the Knights of Nottingham prepare to do battle in Robin Hood’s backyard.

The second weekend of the 2022 Robin Hood Festival gets underway on Saturday (23rd July), with three days of action and entertainment.

The Knights of Nottingham have been delivering dazzling horsemanship and combat displays in their scripted Medieval jousting spectaculars for over 50 years.

Their Robin Hood-themed performance has delighted crowds up and down the country, combining action, drama and laughter too.

This weekend, they venture to RSPB Sherwood Forest, the home of the legend of the outlaw, for two shows on Saturday and two more on Sunday (24th July) in the main arena, next to the National Nature Reserve’s Visitor Centre building at Edwinstowe.

Alongside the Knights will be magic from the mesmerising Nathaniel Bagshot and crazy comedy from the Medieval Maniax (Sunday and Monday only).

There will be music from Sloe Gin, storytelling from Robert of Wentbridge and historical re-enactment from the Wythe Retinue, all evoking the spirit of the Middle Ages.

In addition, you can try your skills with a bow and arrow in the shadow of the iconic Major Oak, guided by traditional archery experts Reach the Core.

All events are free, with the exception of archery, which costs £5 for six arrows.

We also begin our summer family trail on Saturday – take a tour of the forest to find the missing words from letters exchanged by Robin Hood and his true love, Maid Marian.

Please note that parking is £10 per vehicle per day on Saturday and Sunday.

On Monday, the parking charge reverts to £5 per vehicle per day for non-RSPB members and free for members.
