It’s a family affair

Did we mention our visitor centre won a national award recently?! We were so pleased to be named among the winners at the LABC awards. And as a family attraction, it seemed fitting that father and daughter team, Andy and Amy Stamford, should be there to receive the accolade!

As site manager and quantity surveyor respectively, Andy and Amy were integral in the building of our new visitor centre at Sherwood. It was the first project they had worked on together in their roles with Woodhead Group and the location made it all the more special.

“I used to bring Amy and her sister Zoe to Sherwood when they were children,” explained Andy. “We loved visiting the forest. So to come back all these years later and work on this fantastic new visitor centre was just an amazing experience!”

“Watching the building come together, from the first parts of the wooden frame to piecing together that unique roof, was just an amazing feeling, and having Amy involved too made it all the more special.”

The pair both work for Woodhead Group, a family owned business, based just five minutes away from the new centre in Edwinstowe village.

Amy is equally proud of the part she played in the project.

“I was always fascinated by my dad’s job when I was younger and would love visiting him at work whenever I could. But I never really thought we’d end up working together, especially in a location that means so much to our family!”

“Everyone involved in the Sherwood project is really, really proud of the building and I know me and my family will return here again and again in the future. To know that we played a part in creating it really is a fantastic feeling!
