Costumed Guide Volunteer

Do you enjoy bringing history to life? Do you want to help visitors enjoy a day out, teach children about the past, and keep the legend of Robin Hood alive?

We are looking for guide and storytellers who can tell the tales of Robin, Marian and the Merry Men in the heart of their ancient homeland, and who can give a real and face to face history of the forest to our visitors, whilst in medieval costume. Inspired? That’s how we want our visitors to feel…..read on.

What will I do?

  • You will dress in a provided authentic style medieval costume, and be a presence in and around the visitor centre and the forest, speaking with visitors and talking to them about the legends of Sherwood.
  • You might lead some walks and talks for groups and help deliver activities.
  • Children love our costumed presence so be prepared for lots of questions and interaction with families!
  • We ask that our guides and storytellers commit to an average of four days per month, mainly at weekends or in school holidays. Speak to us if you need flexible arrangements.

What’s in it for me?

  • You will be a part of our wider Sherwood team, helping to deliver a great visitor experience and keeping the legend of Robin Hood alive.
  • You will be given training and support to help you develop your knowledge of the local history and the legend, and in developing a character for yourself.
  • As part of our team you will receive travel expenses, and invites to special events and learning opportunities.
  • Above all you will help visitors from all over the world make memories in Sherwood, taking home an irreplaceable experience.
