An update on facilities at the Visitor Centre

We are delighted to share that some toilet facilities will open on Wednesday 8 July. Light refreshments are available from Thursday 9 July.

Car parks are open 10am – 4pm daily, usual parking charges apply. All other facilities remain closed for now.

In accordance with current government guidance we are very pleased to share the dates for the next stages of our phased reopening at the visitor centre.

Toilets will open to visitors from Wednesday 8 July, 10am-4pm daily. To enable social distancing, only limited facilities will be available and a queuing system will be in place. No other areas of the visitor centre will be open.

Light, pre-packaged refreshments and hot drinks will be available from our catering van on the amphitheatre from Thursday 9 July, 10am – 4pm daily.  This will be by contactless payment only.

The main and accessibility car parks are open 10am – 4pm daily. Parking costs £4, or free to RSPB members, as normal. Please pay at the machines and use the hand-sanitiser available there, the machines accept coin, card and contactless. Please do not arrive by car before 10am as this can cause queuing on the main road.

Please note, there continue to be limited parking spaces available in the main car park throughout the day. This is to keep footfall low enough to allow social distancing around the centre and trails for the safety of our visitors and our staff.

Once the car parks are full, they are closed. If you are planning to meet someone travelling in a different car please be aware that the car park regularly closes for long periods at busy times so some cars in your party may have difficulty parking.

There is extremely limited parking elsewhere so we would urge you to not travel if you live a great distance from Sherwood. Instead, please stay local to your nearest reserves and greenspaces. Anyone choosing to visit should observe all current government advice around social distancing and hygiene.

A one-way system has been implemented around the main Major Oak path in the forest, please follow this for the safety of everyone on site.

Please show respect to other users of the site at all times and especially to our staff, who have been working extremely hard to implement the measures necessary to allow visitors back on site, and who are operating under difficult circumstances with a much-reduced team.

Please do not leave litter around our beautiful forest. Many of our staff remain furloughed so we are unable to empty bins as normal and therefore ask that if you bring items of waste to the site, please take it home with you. Barbecues are never permitted and threaten not just our special woodland but the safety of all our visitors and staff. Please report any anti-social behaviour you see to a member of staff.

In accordance with Government guidance, please do not visit if you or any person you live with has any symptoms of coronavirus.

Thank you for your continued support during this time.

Stay safe, the Sherwood Team.
