Education

Sherwood Forest is an incredible place to learn, explore, discover, experiment and grow, so this place has welcomed school visits for decades. We’d love to welcome you, too…

We have an education hub, close to the visitor centre, which hosts organised school visits, giving classes a great base for their learning adventures. And those adventures might focus on nature and how it thrives and sustains here, or maybe a minibeast hunt, or walking in Robin’s footsteps and getting as close as possible to the legends of Sherwood.

We recommend that schools book a tutor-led visit with Nottinghamshire County Council’s outdoor education team, Notts Outdoors. A full programme of educational themes is available, which can really bring children’s learning to life. You can find out more on the Notts Outdoors website and make a booking by emailing perlethorpe@nottscc.gov.uk

Alternatively you can call either 01623 822 218 or 07580 954 354.

Schools are also welcome to do their own thing. If you are a teacher planning to visit the forest with your school group and to self-lead the tour, it would be really helpful if you could let us know in advance. Sherwood is a very busy site and this will allow us to ensure that you have the best experience on your visit. Parking charges will apply to all visiting coaches. Please email sherwoodforest@rspb.org.uk to let us know numbers and dates and we can help you to avoid clashes with other large groups, and give you any information you need to make the most of your trip.

And if your group is itching to get into the shop, but there’s no time on your visit, we can provide you with a pre-paid goodie bag with Sherwood Forest souvenirs for your group.  Email us to find out more.
